Many people still believe that the Moon doesn’t have gravity. Well, it does but it’s much weaker than on Earth. Now you might be wondering how gravity will impact your experience in Moon Metaverse. Let’s find out!
The Moon’s surface gravity is just 1/6th as powerful as back here on Earth. Surface gravity refers to the pull that is experienced when an object is resting on a larger body. Earth’s average surface gravity is about 9.8 meters per second, meaning that a falling object accelerates towards the ground at that speed. The Moon’s gravity is weaker because it is far less massive than Earth. Thus, things on the Moon only weigh 16.6% of what they do on Earth.
This has huge implications on how Moon dwellers will travel, transport, and build on the Moon.
Travel
For humans, movement on the Moon is quite different from Earth. Humans can easily jump 3 meters in the air, an impossibility on Earth. For Moon dwellers, this is a big advantage! They’ll be able to carry as much as 200kg of equipment for survival and exploration. Because of the difference in surface gravity, 200kg feels like 33kg on the Moon!
Although it might sound amazing, there are some disadvantages to this. Spending long periods of time on the Moon will likely result in muscle, bone, and blood loss. In order to stay in shape, Moon dwellers will need to exercise daily to maintain the levels of fitness and strength necessary should they decide to come back to Earth.
Transportation
Gravity’s effects on transportation, are largely positive. The weaker surface gravity has a huge effect on transport effectiveness. Moon buggy’s become more fuel-efficient, goods can be quickly transported via railway, and low gravity makes it easier to take-off and travel around via spaceship.
Building
Low gravity will allow Moon’s architects to get creative! Back on Earth, all buildings are constructed according to their gravitational impact, except, of course, the Leaning Tower of Pisa! However, Moon dwellers will have no such restrictions, and instead, will enjoy more possibilities to express their creativity through unique projects and architectural designs.
