For many, the Moon landings are a source of great fascination, and in the years since have served as an important reminder of mankind’s ambition and ability to innovate. The Apollo 11 mission in particular has been a great inspiration during the development of Moon Metaverse.

Over 50 years have passed since Neil Armstrong uttered the immortal words “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” and yet the quote has still not lost the ability to inspire and capture the imagination of men and women around the globe.

The perilous journey, originally set in motion by President John F. Kennedy provided us with plenty of drama, conspiracies, and little-known facts to work through. Some of them have influenced certain themes and gameplay elements that will be present in the final game.

Here are a few of the most interesting!

  • Secret tapes of Kennedy’s discussions revealed that he was “not that interested in space.” What he was interested in however was getting the better of the Soviets. In the months after Kennedy’s inauguration, the Soviet Union launched the first man into space. Asking how the U.S. could get a win over the Soviets, vice president Lyndon Johnson reported that the best way to show U.S. dominance would be a manned mission to the Moon.
  • Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 film, 2001: A Space Odessey’s representation of outer space was so convincing that conspiracy theorists began to wonder if the government had hired Kubrick to fake the Moon landing in a studio. Interestingly, Kubrick’s movie looks so real because of his collaboration with aerospace engineers and astronomical artists. These theories were later debunked.
  • There were genuine concerns about possible infection by alien microbes. As soon as Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins were released from their re-entry capsule, they were transferred into ‘planetary protection quarantine’ on the off chance that a deadly space-borne disease had traveled back with them.

In Moon, Erthians have decided that the most logical first step for space travel is to head back to the Moon. And so the space race resumes with the launch of a new mission! However, this won’t be a quick visit. Players will be tasked with attempting to settle the first fully-functioning Moon colony, expanding mankind’s reach into space with the aim of uncovering the remaining mysteries that the Moon is hiding.

This won’t be easy, but then again, neither were the Apollo missions!
