Extracting resources from the Moon is necessary to support human life and the development of the lunar colony. What can our Moonlanders expect to find when they land on the lunar surface for the first time?

The lunar surface is the perfect blank slate with which to offer complete freedom. Our community must explore and extract what is necessary to create a thriving colony. Among others, we expect some of the most sought after resources to be:

Water

Without a doubt, one of the most essential resources on the Moon is water. Due to the lack of atmosphere, there is no liquid water on the Moon. However, Scientists have found ice water in the satellite’s cold and permanently shadowed craters. The Moonlander’s search for water will see them travel far and wide meaning efficient forms of transport will be particularly helpful.

Areas with the largest concentration of craters will likely become Moon Metaverses’ most populated and valuable NFT plots. Water is not only essential for sustaining life, but also for performing lunar mining and ensuring spacecraft are fully functioning.

Regolith

A mixture of powdery dust and the broken rock from meteorite impacts, regolith is another important resource for maintaining life on the Moon. In addition to being able to extract water particles from it, it is also composed of 45% oxygen. Very useful!

Moonlanders will mainly use regolith to build houses for protection from the dangers of space radiation and the constant bombardment of micro-meteorites. It can also be used as soil to grow food and plants, making it essential for ensuring an easy-to-maintain source of nutrients.

Helium-3

On Earth, helium-3 is an essential resource for medical testing devices, LCD screens, and rocket fuel tanks. However, it is a finite element and there is very little of it available on Earth, making it extremely valuable.

However, the Moon has been bombarded with large quantities of helium-3 by the solar winds and has an almost unlimited supply of it. In addition to its potential use as a fuel, business-focused Moonlanders will want to extract as much of it as possible. Imagine the profits that could be made from such a valuable resource. On Earth, helium-3 is valued at $1400 per gram, meaning one hundred kilograms of helium-3 would be worth a staggering $140 million!

In order to extract each of these resources, new infrastructure will need to be developed. Making efficient use of the Moon’s available resources will be essential if our Moonlander’s are to survive.
